Controlling tiger mosquitoes on your property

If left unchecked, tiger mosquitoes can quickly become a serious nuisance and significantly reduce the quality of life. They can also transmit viruses under certain circumstances. It is therefore important to take comprehensive action to combat them at an early stage.

The use of Bti tablets, which we developed more than three decades ago, has proven to be effective against mosquitoes breeding in containers. The tablets only contain the proteins of the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, which only kill mosquito larvae and leave all other animals and of course people and plants unharmed (see instructions). The tablets are specifically approved for combating tiger mosquitoes according to §17. The water in the barrels can still be used for watering the garden even after the tablets have been used.

The biological agent is only active for a few weeks, so we looked for a more sustainable solution for treating mass breeding sites for tiger mosquitoes, such as water barrels such as rain barrels. One such method is to combat the larvae in the barrel by applying the tablets and then completely covering the barrel with a mosquito net so that the females cannot reach the water surface or the inside of the barrel.
